Dilorom Mamedova is a contemporary Uzbek artist from Tashkent whose practice encompasses landscape, still life and portrait painting. Her work explores the architecture, everyday life and natural surroundings of Uzbekistan through expressive colour and a strong sense of place.
From old city courtyards to mountain villages and pomegranate still lifes, her subjects reflect a sustained engagement with her homeland. Her paintings combine observation with individual expression, ranging from impressionistic brushwork to richly textured surfaces.
Biography
Born in Tashkent in 1974, Dilorom Mamedova graduated from the Republican Art Lyceum in 1992. In 1998, she completed her studies in easel painting at the National Institute of Fine Arts and Design named after Kamoliddin Behzod. Her teachers included R. Ahmedov, N. Kuzybaev, B. Babaev and A. Mirzaev.
She has been a member of the Creative Union of Artists under the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan since 2003. Her professional experience includes teaching at a specialised art school and working at the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan.
Mamedova’s exhibition history includes a solo presentation at Tashkent’s Ilkhom Theatre in 1997, followed by exhibitions at the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan, the Central Exhibition Hall of the Academy of Arts and the Savitsky Museum in Nukus. In 2017, she received the Shuhrat Medal of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Alongside her studio practice, she has participated in international exhibitions, plein-air projects and artists’ symposia. Her educational activities include workshops for art students, children and community organisations.
In 2026, Mamedova continued her exhibition and international cultural activity through projects in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan and as a member of the official cultural delegation of Uzbekistan to the Baltic States.
Her works are represented in museum collections in the United States, Japan, China, Russia and Uzbekistan.
Painting, Place and Colour
Travel throughout Uzbekistan plays an important role in Mamedova’s practice. Village streets, courtyards, mountain landscapes and the people who inhabit them provide recurring subjects. Her paintings return to places such as Bukhara, Charvak and the villages around Tashkent, exploring their changing light, forms and atmosphere.
Still life offers another way to explore colour and everyday experience. Pomegranates, flowers and familiar objects become the focus of compositions that bring together close observation and expressive paint handling.
Across these subjects, Mamedova approaches contemporary Uzbek art through personal encounters with place and daily life. Architecture and landscape carry the traces of human presence, while colour and texture convey her response to what she sees.
Architectural 3D Impasto
Architectural 3D Impasto is a distinctive strand of Dilorom Mamedova’s practice. In these works, raised paint gives the surface a pronounced physical dimension, adding relief to the painted image.
The texture invites close viewing: individual marks and built-up forms become part of the composition. Seen alongside her broader painting practice, these works reveal her interest in the relationship between colour, material and space.
